Earthquake in Yogyakarta

First the eruption of Mount Merapi, which made hundreds of people flee their home, and now an earthquake that claimed more than 5.000 lives. Now the volcano is threatening again… It is amazing to see how such an earthquake made so many victims: vulnerability, a synonym of poverty? For more update on this humanitarian emergency, you can visit WALHI’s website (http://www.eng.walhi.or.id/). WALHI is the largest forum of non-government and community-based organisations in Indonesia. It is represented in 25 provinces and has over 438 member organisations.
Below, a person injured in the earthquake sleeps near the garage of the village chief's home in Cangkring, Bantul. Overcrowded local hospitals have not been able to admit all of the injured from the disaster.
